Tires are of utmost importance when it comes to mobility and safety. They can make a significant difference in traction and stopping distances especially in wet conditions. Driving on worn tires is like walking in shoes with worn-out soles. It makes for a difficult walk and can cause mishaps. On average, people drive about 25-50 mph in the city and 50-80 mph on the highway. In an emergency, if you are driving with worn tires, your stopping distance increases, especially on wet roads. In a recent study, the stopping distance of vehicles was compared based on tire tread. It took 8 car lengths more to stop in wet conditions with worn tires measuring at 4/32nds compared to new tires at 10/32nds. Nearly 10 car lengths more, with tires worn down to 2/32nds. This is important to think about as it can be pertinent in an emergency. At what measurement are tires ok? New tire tread depths can vary. They vary depending on the type of application, tread design, tread profile, and measurement. This is due to the types of tires such as all-season tires, passenger tires, off-road tires, and performance tires.  On average, our new tires start at 10/32nds. 10/32 - 7/32nds is considered a good tire. 6/32nds - 5/32nds is considered acceptable. You should plan to have them replaced, if not now, then soon. 4/32nds or below, should be replaced. 3/32nds is at the wear bar indicator. Units measuring under 2/32nds are considered unsafe and must be replaced immediately to meet legal safety standards. It’s hard to imagine that some 8-10 (maybe 12) years ago, we started talking about what we needed in terms of a new facility here at Hewlett Volkswagen in Georgetown.  With all the growth in central Texas, growth in our local market and growth in our very own staff, we knew a much larger facility was a must - but that was a long time ago…. Fast forward to now, the growth in all areas mentioned above is far more than we could have ever expected. While it took a ton of planning, design modifications, brand approvals and frankly, future sales and service volume forecasting, we finally started building and finished last November. It’s now been almost a full year and the move back into the new facility could not have gone better.  The success of our own beloved Volkswagen franchise right her in little Georgetown, Texas has far surpassed anyone’s imagination. During the speeches from the VW executives, they put a giant map of the United States on the screen (took up the entire auditorium) highlighted Georgetown, Texas - and gave Hewlett Volkswagen a shoutout for going from ranked number 51 in the nation this time a year ago, to being currently ranked number 5 in the nation!  Largest jump in rankings in the entire country.
